Data-Import is the process of importing gamers’ ingame character-data, such as gear, content, achievements etc, into GuildPlanner.Pro.
To achieve this, depending on the title, we might either utilize an ingame Addon (which gathers the game-data as you play) accompanied by a desktop Client (which automatically uploads such data to our website), or use Web APIs (application programming interface) some titles provide to automatically fetch such data.
Good examples to games featuring a Web API would be Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy XIV.
Games such as the Elder Scrolls Online on the other hand, do not feature a Web API. Instead they feature an ingame UI API (primarily used by countless developers to craft gorgeous UI addons) which we use to gather game-data.
Currently GuildPlanner.Pro supports only the Elder Scrolls Online, with more games coming soon.
As mentioned above, we have built an ingame Addon for ESO, to gather game-data to be uploaded to GuildPlanner.Pro (“WebSite”).
Our ESO Addon can be downloaded either manually, or via ESOUI’s Minion Addon Manager.
Once installed and activated, the addon will start gathering game-data as you play. Upon logout or /reloadui
, that data is saved to so called SavedVariables
file (a file called GuildPlannerPro_Export.lua
). The location of this file varies between platforms, but generally they are located in user’s Documents folder.
On Windows platform, data-file is located under <My Documents>\Elder Scrolls Online\live\SavedVariables\GuildPlannerPro_Export.lua
.
On MacOS, it is located under ~/Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/SavedVariables/GuildPlannerPro_Export.lua
.
In addition to ingame addons, we also need a utility to upload the .LUA
data-files these addons create, to WebSite. This is where our desktop Client programs come in.
Our Client inherently isn’t specific to a certain game: it is designed to support all UI-API-based games (such as ESO) we support at the moment and might support in future. Its sole responsibility is to upload your game data-files (e.g. GuildPlannerPro_Export.lua
mentioned above) to WebSite for further processing.
Client is released for Windows as a Standalone Installer, and through Windows Store (recommended way of usage).
Unfortunately the Standalone version of our Client isn’t “code-signed”, which might make Windows Defender complain about “possible security issue”. Read here for more information on that.
